Course 4 of 7OPENS FEBRUARY 9

Just Right. Stop being the captain. Start being the coach.

From the outside, it looks like you’ve made it. But you know you’re exhausted from running around everywhere putting out fires, babysitting managers, and quietly asking “Is this it?”

Just Right, Course 4 of The Founder’s Evolution
Sound familiar?

You keep building bigger, but it keeps getting harder

By this stage you have built a successful organization by anyone’s standard. You have other leaders managing teams of people all working toward your vision. You have revenue, growth, success. On paper, you’re winning.

You still spend your days jumping from one fire to the next. You delegate a decision, then find out nobody made it. Or somebody made it wrong. You step in and you’re stepping on toes. You stay out and things fall apart.

But every step bigger has felt more complicated instead of better.

Here’s what nobody tells you. No one can manage all of this on their own. Not you. Not anyone.

You didn’t sacrifice everything to still struggle with this much chaos. And you don’t know how to get out.

Jim’s story

“This isn’t fun anymore, Scott. I’m done.”

Jim grows premium landscape trees on almost a thousand acres in Alabama. For years he did it all himself. He planted, pruned, watered and sold.

As demand grew, he hired managers. They were longtime friends he trusted completely.

Then the problems started. Sales targets were missed. Trees shipped late. Pruning was sloppy. Complaints went ignored. Jim spent every day firefighting, and he lost trust in his team while they lost patience with him.

When we first talked, he was ready to liquidate everything. “There are a few hundred thousand trees out there,” he told me. “I can’t even stand to look at them.”

When I asked about his leadership team, he laughed. “I don’t have a leadership team. We’re farmers!”

Jim was a Disillusioned Leader. The problem wasn’t his people. It was him. He kept jumping back on the field when his job was to coach from the sideline.

Jim didn’t need to work harder. He needed to lead differently.

First, he stopped looking for managers and started looking for leaders. He gave his team the chance to step up and found out quickly who was ready. Most of them came alive, full of ideas for growing themselves and the business. A few chose to go back to frontline roles. Now Jim knew who he could count on.

Then he let himself dream again. His team believed they could double or triple revenue without buying another acre. Their vision became his vision.

He gave each leader clear ownership of sales, operations or administration. Jim focused on the one problem only he could solve, quality in the field, and trusted his team with the rest.

The biggest surprise was what had been causing all the friction. It wasn’t misalignment. It was miscommunication between different Leadership Styles. Once he understood how each of his leaders thought, the tension turned into better decisions.

It took more trust and more patience than Jim was used to. But one year later, he worked less than ever. His team doubled the company’s profit. Quality problems disappeared. He spent a full month in Michigan with his grandkids.

“I can truly say today that liquidation isn’t an option. I have so much more I want to accomplish.”

The shift

Hustle got you here. It won’t get you through.

At Level 4 the formula that worked in Levels 1 through 3 runs out. Working harder makes it worse.

Your job is no longer making the play. It’s designing the plays your team runs.

Ninety percent of your success now comes through other people.

You can run down the sidelines as fast as you want, but it’s not going to help your team win.

That’s the shift from Team Captain on the Field to Head Coach on the Sideline. It’s the shift from Disillusioned Leader to Contented Leader.

You don’t have to grow bigger for things to get better. A lot better.

Tyler’s story

Big enough to matter. Small enough to enjoy.

Tyler runs a recovery ministry. He started it to help people find the freedom from addiction he had fought for himself.

Then came the worst month of his career. His associate director quit without notice. A software bug left the ministry over $1 million short on budget. Tyler canceled everything at work and at home to right the ship himself.

That Saturday, after another fifteen-hour day, he told his wife, “I can’t keep doing this.”

She asked him one question: “What do you want this to be?”

He didn’t want to walk away. He loved the work too much. But he couldn’t keep running it as a one-man show.

So he built a Leadership Team and gave them real authority. He set the vision and let them run with it.

It wasn’t easy. The first time he handed off a community outreach event, he hovered like a helicopter parent and second-guessed every choice. Then 150 people showed up, more than double their usual turnout. His team hadn’t just executed his vision. They had amplified it.

Today his leaders run the daily meetings and take the middle-of-the-night calls. Tyler still jumps in when it counts. He could build a national network, but that’s not his game. He’d rather be the mystery reader in his daughter’s preschool class.

The world tells you to scale or die. That’s a lie. You might be exactly where you belong.

Is this you?

This course is for you if

  • Your organization has about 15 to 50 people, with managers leading teams under you
  • You’re carrying more than one person can manage, and you’re still trying to do it alone
  • Your managers are loyal but don’t think like leaders
  • You feel the pull to scale but aren’t sure it’s right for you
  • You want more freedom without walking away from what you built
  • You’re a Disillusioned Leader asking, “Is this it?”

Fewer than 15 people, or still managing everyone yourself? Start with Small and Mighty.

More than 50, with an executive team in place? Founder to CEO is your level.

Questions

Before you join

Is this course right for me?

If your organization has about 15 to 50 people, you have managers leading teams, and you still can’t get out of the weeds, yes.

If you have a smaller team or you’re still managing everyone yourself, start with Small and Mighty. If you’re leading more than 50 people with an executive team in place, Founder to CEO is built for you.

Still not sure? Take the quiz, or plan on the Level 4 Gold Pack: Small and Mighty, Just Right, Founder to CEO, and Founder’s Legacy for $594 when doors open.

Do I need to take Small and Mighty first?

No. Start at your level. Lesson 4.1.5 helps you confirm you’re ready for this one.

Does this work for nonprofits?

Yes. Every course is built for founders of businesses and nonprofits. Tyler’s ministry is one example.

Do I have to watch every lesson?

No. Each section stands on its own. Skim what you already do well and go deep where you’re stuck.

What if I pick the wrong level?

You can switch to a different course once within 30 days.

How long do I have access?

Your access isn’t on a timer. There are no deadlines and no cohort dates. Go at your own pace, rewatch any lesson, and come back whenever your organization hits a new challenge.

Do I need to read the book first?

No. The book is the map of the whole founder journey. This course is the step-by-step playbook for this level. They work well together, but neither requires the other.

Your next move

You don’t need to grow bigger. You need to lead differently.

Stop carrying it alone, and build an organization that’s big enough for the life you want.
